Invisalign is a tooth straightening system that allows us to move teeth in a predictable way and doesn’t have the drawbacks associated with traditional fixed wire braces. It uses discreet, clear aligners which sit over the teeth and are changed every week or two. Over a number of weeks or months, the teeth are brought into the position we want them to be in.
When I was growing up, two of my top front teeth (lateral incisors) didn’t develop. As a result, I was left with a very “gappy” smile which I have been very self conscious of for at least twenty years.
I had braces when I was a child which attempted to close the gaps, but this involved bringing my canine teeth forwards which just didn’t look right. Over time, I stopped wearing a retainer and my teeth moved back to their original positions.
I wanted to look into options, to see if the gaps in my smile could be closed and if the missing teeth could be replaced. Alex took some impressions and photos and we planned the movements with the Invisalign system. The plan was fantastic!
We are closing the gap between my top front teeth and moving the other teeth backwards in order to create space where the missing teeth should be. Then when the Invisalign treatment is finished, I will be in a position to have implants placed.
I am just over halfway through my Invisalign treatment. It has been totally fine! The teeth are a little tender when I change to a new aligner but I am really starting to see progress. I really can’t wait to get my new smile!
